"Lunacy Lake" By Kathi Daley: Review/Giveaway

by Kathleen Costa

Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win an ebook copy of this book, and a link to purchase it from Amazon.

Zoe Donovan-Zimmerman has been a fan favorite for thirty-two books with delightful worldwide travels, holiday celebrations, a couple of weddings, growing teens, a few babies, and a plethora of "fur" friends. Using her "Zodar," Zoe always seems to come upon a suspicious death or two or dozens, but with boyfriend, now husband Zak, BFF Ellie and her boyfriend, now husband Levi, and often cooperating with local law enforcement, she always seems to uncover who has the means, opportunity, and motive. Along the way, readers are treated to life in Ashton Falls with lunches out, visits to the animal rescue shelter, school days at Zimmerman Academy, holiday preparations, ins and outs of raising kids, and lots of fun...and murder!

Lunacy Lake earns 5/5 Camping Ventures...Exciting and Fun Read!

Teenagers! Alex is only fifteen, but her confidence and academic excellence puts her well beyond her immediate peer group. She's a great kid, and has been in Zoe's and her husband Zak's care for several years. However, she desires to join her friends, most two years older than her, at a female empowerment camp. Zoe isn't sure, but a parental compromise is struck; Alex can go, but Zoe and her BFF Elle will join as chaperones. Although the whole trip is in jeopardy due to some surprising camp issues: isolated with a ban on all electronic devices. Ok, a week off the grid can't be all that bad...hiking, zip lining, rock climbing, a swimming pool and sauna, but oops, it's the a dead body that is the most taxing.

I am a big fan of Kathi Daley's Zoe Donovan Mystery series, and even after dozens of adventures, this series continues to be exciting and fun! Kathi has created an engaging extended family with everyday joys, trials, successes, and quandaries. This mystery has Zoe on her own, as isolated as the setting; she has her BFF for backup, and Alex is there, too, and being in an isolated area adds greatly to the suspense when threats to their safety are revealed. I always enjoy the use of a first-person narrative sharing Zoe's perspective along with descriptions and dialogue that illustrate well the setting, personalities, and emotions. Additionally its always enjoyable to get insights into the characters connections: mother-like to daughter-like, friend to friend, adults to children. Kathi Daley has a well-rounded writing style with a cozy mystery often challenging the reader's detective skill, but she also includes everyday activities and insights into the character. It's always fun to join in with the Donovan/Zimmerman family.
