Feral Paws Rescue: Thano

by Paula Hunsaker

Feral Paws Rescue Group in Fresno shares with us some of their animal rescue adventures every month. Check out KRL's article about Feral Paws to learn more about them.

Thano was rescued from a high-kill shelter. He is such a handsome boy with the most beautiful blue eyes. Thano is a wonderful Siamese kitty. And he is a big boy that weighs over fourteen pounds! Loves human contact, loves to play with toys, and chase balls rolling around in his large housing area at our rescue. He gets so excited when my grandkids play with him with kitty toys. He gives them kisses and just loves all of the attention. He rolls over for them to rub his fat belly. Lays in their laps. Just a total love bug.

Shortly after pulling Thano from the shelter, we were pulling another FIV positive kitty not long after Thano came to our rescue. Since they were both FIV positive we housed them together. Thano was so excited to get a friend to play with. It was an amazing friendship when they bonded together and played together. Before long the other FIV kitty that came to our rescue was adopted, leaving Thano to play by himself as he waits for someone to adopt him and bring him to his new forever home. Our rescue has adopted many FIV positive kitties to amazing loving homes. I believe in my heart there is a special home waiting for Thano to have as a safe and loving forever home.

Originally, Thano was being pulled from the high-kill shelter by an out of the area rescue. Prior to leaving the shelter the rescue wanted him tested for FIV. He was tested and sadly came back positive. The rescue that had planned to pull him declined to follow through with the rescue of Thano going to their rescue. Thano was signed out be put down at the shelter. Fortunately, a staffer at the shelter contacted our rescue asking if we were interested in pulling him. Our rescue did not have an issue with that request at all. We were proud to stand up and save his life. Thano may be FIV positive, but it is not a death sentence for him. It just a little more work in making sure that he finds that special forever home with the knowledge of what it is to the adopter to adopt a FIV positive kitty. I believe in my heart there is a family out there for Thano. They just have not crossed paths with him yet. But until his forever family adopts him, Thano will have nothing but love and attention at our rescue.

Thano is just a big boy with nothing but love to give to the special family he is waiting for at our rescue. To learn more about FIV+, please see the resources listed below. We hope this helps to break the myths surrounding FIV+ kitties.
