Who ya gonna call?…Ainsley Holloway

Several months ago Ainsley Holloway’s search for information about her family has brought her to Gooseberry Bay, Washington, where her clouded memories have become clearer about the identity of two girls in a photo she found in her late father’s belongings, at least the man whom she believed was her father. Some of the clarity included her real name, a story surrounding her real parents, and a real sister. She’s been assisted in her search by a small group of delightful and talented friends, local, wealthy resident Adam Winchester, and a couple of Bernese Mountain dogs. Making Gooseberry Bay her home also meant finding a way to make a living, and with her experience partnering in her dad’s PI firm and her role in solving a few recent cold cases, mysteries, and murders, there was only one avenue…Ainsley Holloway Investigations.

A Summer Thing
Earns 4/5 Old Photos…Entertaining Fun!

“Magnolia Blossom is missing!” A highly popular social influencer has the reputation that her thumbs up can improve a business’s bottom line as well as her thumbs down can be its ruin, needless to say, her attention is highly sought. Magnolia had been traveling from San Diego to Seattle posting videos for her West Coast Summer Tour, but after shooting a promo video in Gooseberry Bay at a boardwalk ice cream van, she was not seen again. An alarm went out by those whom Magnolia had obligations, and her sister Juniper reports she’d not seen her return to the hotel the night before. She mentioned they’d argued, and Magnolia had been moody over the past few months and taking more alone time as of late. Ainsley was asked by her friend and local reporter Parker Peterson to assist in the search since her reputation for finding the missing is well-known. Which explains her new client Kingsley Sherman whose search for her birth father has limited avenues to explore. There’s no name on her birth certificate and her mother was unwilling to ever reveal any information about her daughter’s paternity. But her mother passed away and the desire to “know” is strong no matter the result. Some old photos taken in Gooseberry Bay decades before just might hold the key to some answers.

Summer Gem! Kathi Daley has penned another enjoyable, relaxing mystery for the sixth book in her Cottage at Gooseberry Bay series. The two new investigations deal with compelling emotional issues both tied to questions of parentage and adding a murder to the mix ramps up the interest. However, the basic intensity missed the mark; I would have enjoyed more nail-biting suspense. Kathi’s writing style is descriptive with engaging banter between characters, and some of the legwork, although interesting, is more conversational and some of the investigation occurs off the page and reported secondhand. The storyline did have some intriguing surprises. The mystery of Ainsley’s own background gains additional insight and direction, but continues to be an ongoing element. I am still a fan of Daley’s work, and find this series an entertaining light read.

Alert! Book Seven, A Geek Thing, is on Preorder HERE and set to release on September 28. “Ainsley is approached by several representatives from The Secret Society of Teenage Losers who are hoping to hire her to find a missing physicist who they believe has met with foul play.”
