"Halloween Parade Peril" By Victoria Tait: Review/Giveaway

Review by Sarah Erwin

Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of the book and a link to purchase it.

I am always happy to pick up a new book by Victoria Tait, and Halloween Parade Peril, book 10 in the Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series did not disappoint. Readers who especially enjoy reading seasonally should grab this newest entry for their fall to-be-read stack. Like others in this series, this title can be read either as a standalone or as part of the series. There are storylines that travel throughout the series that are interesting to follow over the books.

Dotty has the opportunity to travel to Ireland to attend a prestigious auction as part of her latest commission for her antiques business. Her dear friend Sergeant Keya Varma joins Dotty because her boyfriend Sujin and his band have been invited to play at the Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin.

Keya is featured in another series by Victoria – the Waterwheel Cafe” series, and the overlap of the two series adds to the reading experience. It is especially fun to see Keya from Dotty’s perspective.

Once in Ireland, Zach joins Dotty and we get a bit more about a possible relationship between the two and I am here for it!

Things turn deadly, though, when someone close to the traveling crew ends up murdered at a Halloween parade. Due to the many Halloween festivities taking place, the local police are working with a skeleton crew, and Dotty believes they put the wrong person behind bars. Working with Keya and Sujin, while also balancing bidding for her clients at the auction and exploring her relationship with Zach, Dotty is determined to seek justice.

I love escaping into one of Victoria’s mysteries. Her writing brings the setting to life, and the details she manages to include are impressive without overpowering the reader. I had no idea how Halloween was celebrated in Ireland, nor have I ever attended an auction such as the one described in this book. I found both those parts of the story fascinating. I also enjoyed the Irish folklore shared by one of the characters Dotty meets in Ireland. It takes great skill to add so much without the story becoming like a textbook. The mystery kept me turning the pages.

I’m looking forward to book 11, Yuletide Market Murder, due out in November 2024.
