Murder Under A Cold Moon is another delightful entry into Abigail Keam’s historical cozy mystery series featuring Mona Moon and new husband, Robert Farley, Duke of Brynelleth.

Book 13 finds the Duke and Duchess on their honeymoon trip. Despite plans for an upcoming cruise as part of their travels, Mona and Robert make a detour to visit an old family friend, Lady Eustacia of Blackhaven Hall. Robert receives a rather cryptic note summoning the couple to Blackhaven, and the two barely arrive safely due to horrendous storms.

Upon their arrival, they find several other couples in attendance, but their hostess has yet to make an appearance. As the storm rages on, Mona and Robert realize all is not right in Blackhaven: a visitor is murdered, the hostess is missing, and the telephone wires have been cut. They are truly trapped and are determined to solve the many mysteries.

Abigail is able to do a lot within 177 pages, and I found myself turning them quickly. This reads like a classic British manor house mystery, and the details of the storm, as well as the descriptions of the outdated Blackhaven Hall, add to the trapped feeling and amplify the tension.

Mona is a wonderful character––down to earth, generous, and thoughtful––and those characteristics make her a great foil to the others in attendance at the gathering. The sprinkling of romance between Mona and Robert added to my enjoyment of the story, and the two make a wonderful pair.

I eagerly followed the clues along with Mona, and while I didn’t guess the ending, after I finished, I enjoyed thinking through the story and piecing it all together.

Fans of historical mysteries will gobble this up. Readers can certainly read this as a stand-alone and delight in knowing there are 12 more historical cozy mysteries featuring Mona. Readers who enjoy the Stella and Lyndy Mysteries by Clara McKenna should enjoy Abigail’s Mona Moon mysteries.
