Here’s one of the best duos in cozy(ish) crime-solving: Tessa and her Aunt Edna, who restore vintage cars in the rural town of New Oslo, Idaho. They bring the added perspective of both having served in the military, Edna in Vietnam and Tessa much more recently.Image Source Gemma Halliday |
This is the fourth in the Hometown Homicides series by author Rosalie Spielman, herself a veteran. The plot is complicated by several interesting twists. Are all the crime victims really victims? Do the father-and-son former residents, suddenly returned, plan to decimate local businesses and take over the town for their own benefit? Could current townspeople also be involved?
A wreath-eating moose, a couple local Christmas tree farms, and a charity event called “The Running of the Grinches” provide seasonal color in this December mystery.
It will take the combined power of Tessa, her ex-military boyfriend, and her police chief best friend, as well as back up by Aunt Edna, to get a handle on this threatening situation. Near the end of the book, the strands of the crimes are finally separated enough to identify the criminals who must be brought to justice.
But is everything fully wrapped up (pun intended) by Christmas morning, or is there one more perilous surprise in store for Tessa before she can relax and enjoy a peaceful holiday with her family?

One day it occurred to her that she could combine the two pursuits. She recently began to write wine-themed cozy mysteries. Hopefully, her agent will love them.
This book sounds like it is full of twists and turns! I am not good with cars but always impressed by those who are.
