The first sentence in Cruel and Bitter Things by Joseph Souza is “Gwynn knew as soon as she saw Sam Townsend that she would kill him.” And the body count goes up from there. This book is narrated through the eyes of the killer, Gwynn, giving the reader insight into each death: the means, motive, opportunity. It also shows how the act of murder spirals into another and another.

With this mystery, it’s not the who-done-it, but when and how it will happen again. Will the lead detective, whom she has enticed into bed, be able to puzzle out the murders.

As a page turner, Cruel and Bitter Things, keeps you guessing. And as a part of the Bad Choices Series, you want to shout at Gwynn not to go there. But of course, she can’t hear you.

Joseph Souza builds tension and drama through action and character development. If you like a great psychological thriller, this is the book for you.
