Details on how to win a copy of this book at the end of the review & links to purchase it.

Marshall Ryan Maresca is one of those writers who has to know more about the worlds he creates. His Archduchy of Maradaine started out with a university, the neighborhood, street gangs, and a vigilante. He expanded his vision to include multicultural areas and detectives of the constabulary for a second series. After that came two brothers, raised as thieves, who went straight…until arson took their street and business, and they became the Holver Alley Crew, intent on revenge against the upper-class criminals that drove them from their homes.

Lady Henterman’s Wardrobe sounds like the title of a bodice-ripper historical romance, but it’s actually a convoluted caper with political thriller overtones in a clockwork fantasy world with wizards. Asti and Verci Rynax have a diverse, motley crew backing them, each one with their own talents and baggage. There’s the female sharpshooter with a physically strong, but mentally slowed cousin, trying to keep her crossbow of love from sighting on the married Verci. A dark-skinned horse-handler is a target of prejudice and suspicion wherever he goes; he enjoys being accepted, even if it is by a group engaged in beyond-the-law activities. A light-fingered street-waif with maternal instincts shepherds her own junior gang of boys while a new band of street thugs starts muscling in on their turf. A near-legendary lady of crime uses the Crew to recapture some of her fading power. An apothecary who can make you sick and an actor with young proteges have their part, too. Asti holds beastly anger inside from betrayal and torture during his military intelligence days; is it PTSD or something beyond that?

Following a paper trail of guilt, the revengers work their way into a nobleman’s household, where they find…trouble from the past. The Holver Alley Crew has things go wrong with alarming frequency. Of course, if the course was smooth and nothing went awry, it wouldn’t be a caper-thriller. Imagine Ocean’s 11 mixed with The Sting, Mission: Impossible, Robin Hood, and J. R. R. Tolkein, with Angelina Jolie as a guest star, and you’ll come close to Lady Henterman’s Wardrobe. Enter, and be pleased by the games within games.
