Shaken, Not Stirring Up Trouble…
Starting in 2012 with Unbreakable Bond, Gemma Halliday and Jennifer Fischetto have teamed together to create a delightful twist to the James Bond franchise. Well, no spies, although there's a lot of “spying” for clients. Jamie Bond, really James (she'll never forgive her father for that) is a private investigator in L.A. with a team who look more like runway models than computer and weapons experts. A former model herself, Jamie made a career change and joined the family business operating the Bond Agency, a premier private investigating firm started by her father. Her team, or—shall I say it?—Bond Girls, are beautiful and talented, but they, too, needed a career revamping. Together they take on clients who need a little spying on philandering husbands, an ex-fiancé, the DA’s office, and a husband cheating on his…diet? Mixed with a bit of humor and fashion the team always finds the solution, but often something simple gets very complicated…if not perilous.

Fatal Bond earns 5/5 Candy Apples (tee-hee-hee)…Entertaining and Fun!

One bit of drama after another has made this first day back from vacation one for which Jamie wished she’d never gotten out of bed. From a stain on her lovely blouse to exhaustive L.A. traffic, from a pair a sister-wives wanting their impulsive husband followed to a frantic visit from an exotic dancer, it all seemed just another day in the life of an L.A. private-eye. Candy, an exotic dancer at The Spotted Pony, is worried than her BFF/dance partner Apple has gone missing. After a gig at a high-rolling movie producer’s Bel Air home, Apple uncharacteristically misses her shift, and her phone goes right to voicemail. Something is definitely wrong… And while juggling other clients, the team sets to follow a polygamist husband who seems to be “scouting“ a new prospect his current wives are worried might not be the right fit. Something is definitely suspicious… Then there's the complicated romantic triangle, her father’s surprise party plans, and a run-in with a band of pre-schoolers. Something is definitely entertaining…

Wow, this fifth book in the Jamie Bond series surpassed my expectations. I have always been a fan of Gemma Halliday, but I am a newbie of Jennifer Fischetto’s work. Together they left me eager to read the previous books. The story incorporates a couple of clever plots addressing several clients for these P.I.s to help. I enjoyed their first-person narrative sharing Jamie’s inner thoughts and vivid descriptions along with banter that provided humor and glimpses of tone and personality. The all-female P.I. firm is a great idea breaking the norms that a pretty face is only that. Jamie and her Bond Girls are clever and determined, a realistic and refreshing view of their abilities. Jamie’s childhood and relationship with her father has ups and downs making me seriously wonder…who’s the parent or who’s the child? And her dilemma over the two men who wish to be part of her life…a bit high-schoolish, but entertaining to follow. It seems newbies can start the series here. I was entertained, and although I know characters are established, there were no spoilers to ruin going back to the rest of the series.
