February started off strong with a Nintendo Direct on February 9. The direct was full of exciting announcements. The first major announcement was the first trailer for a new Fire Emblem Warriors game, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, which features the Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters. The game will cover a new story featuring all of your favorite characters from Three Houses. The game is set to release on June 24, 2022.

The next big announcement was for Nintendo Switch Sports, making fans of the infamous game Wii Sports very excited, myself included. The Nintendo sports games are unique to other sports games as it requires actual physical participation. The game will be released on April 29, 2022.

A new trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land was shown and introduced a new mode for the game: mouthful mode. Mouthful mode allows the player, as Kirby, to inhale real-world objects (like a car) and transform into them. The game releases on March 25, 2022.

The famous Super NES game, Earthbound, came to the Nintendo Switch the day of the Nintendo Direct. This continues Nintendo’s goal of adding classic Nintendo games to the Nintendo Switch.

A remaster of Chrono Cross, the critically acclaimed RPG, is coming to Nintendo Switch on April 7, 2022, which includes a text-based prequel adventure.

Many other pre-existing games were announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch, such as the Portal series, Kingdom Hearts series, and Assassins Creed: The Ezio Collection.

On top of the Nintendo Direct earlier this month, an exciting and highly-anticipated game was released on February 18; Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to the game Horizon Zero Dawn. The sequel is being praised as even better than the first game with dramatic graphics and gameplay improvements and a story full of exciting twists and turns. Critics and fans alike agree that Horizon Forbidden West is a game of the year contender.

This month has been an exciting month for games as the effects of the pandemic on the gaming industry are slowly starting to wind down. I cannot wait to see what is next for video games this year.
