Echoes of Memory is a standalone thriller by mystery writer Sara Driscoll, and readers should be prepared to want to read non-stop until they reach the very end. I inhaled this in a day and a half and even attempted to read while cooking dinner. I had to know what happened.Quinn Fleming is a San Diego florist, who, after being assaulted, is now struggling with post-traumatic amnesia. If she does not write down exactly what happens in her day, she will not remember. She relies on a notebook she carries with her at all times where she records events of each day.

Thankfully, Detective Reyes looks into Quinn’s background and believes her, so when flashbacks begin happening, Quinn has someone to turn to. Quinn begins sketching these flashbacks as a way to record what she sees. These sketches piece together a crime even bigger than a single murder in a dark alley.
It becomes clear, however, that someone involved knows Quinn is a witness and attempts to eliminate her. What follows is an absolute page-turner of a mystery. I had to force myself to slow down my reading because I didn’t want to miss anything, while at the same time I had to know what was going to happen. As I neared closer and closer to the end, I found myself reading with my jaw hanging open.
Quinn’s assault and post-traumatic amnesia was handled with great care in the story, and the brain science behind how memory works was fascinating. Sara incorporated these details smoothly into the story without overburdening the reader with details.
Quinn and Detective Reyes are strong characters and made a wonderful team. Detective Reyes was inspiring in her respect for Quinn and her determination to find justice. Reading how Quinn got up again and again from trauma had me rooting for her the entire way.
This was such a well told story, and I am itching to get my hands on other work by Sara Driscoll.
