In a small town in Massachusetts, this particular summer evening begins just like any other at the family-style diner where Sofie is waitressing. Then the football team arrives after practice, and in the space of an hour everything changes. Has Sofie accidentally killed the beloved high school football coach––with an amateur witch’s spell? If not, who did? This is what twenty-something Sofie Rinaldi has to figure out.Image Source Gemma Halliday |
More issues arise. Who is blackmailing almost everyone in town? Can Sofie actually perform spells, or are certain happenings just coincidences? Could Sofie be a witch, and if so, why did her “powers” suddenly manifest themselves only a few months ago? Why does her long-absent mother suddenly return to town? And what will Sofie learn about her own family now?
With the support of her long-time best friend Esme, Sofie sets out to clear her name the only way she can: by figuring out who did kill the coach. She lands in a plethora of suspects that range from enemies to acquaintances, and include a potential love interest. This is not easy for Sofie, but as readers, we’re happy to be swept along in this absorbing, cozy crime novel, which author Jennifer Fischetto created from her original Kindle Vella series. And now for my own question: will there be more in this Sofie series?

One day it occurred to her that she could combine the two pursuits. She recently began to write wine-themed cozy mysteries. Hopefully, her agent will love them.
Sounds interesting. Count me in.
