Blood Kissed is the first in a new fantasy series by Keri Arthur, who is one of my favorite writers. This series features a witch named Lizzie Grace, who is trying to run from her family and her past, because she feels responsible for the death of her sister. Even though she is from a powerful blue blood witch family, Lizzie claims that she doesn't have any real powers and is just a psychic.

Lizzie and her human familiar and best friend Belle have opened a small cafe in the werewolf reservation town of Castle Rock, hoping to live a quiet life using her powers to help people. The Psychic Cafe offers more than just food and beverage; they specialize in finding lost things for people using Lizzie's psychometry talents. But when a new client asks Lizzie to find her missing daughter, things get much more complicated and she not only fears she will be discovered, but ends up fearing for her own life as well. Further complicating things, in a world where witches are considered powerful government aides, for some reason this reservation has fired their witch and magic is starting to get out of control.

When the daughter's disappearance draws Lizzie into a hunt for a dangerous vampire, she ends up working with the Rangers who are the reservation cops. She finds herself attracted to the head Ranger Aidan, who unfortunately hates witches. Because vampires are involved, it means that federal agents are also brought in, and Lizzie fears her magical abilities and family heritage will be revealed-meaning they would have to move yet again.

While I enjoy Keri's books that are published by the big publishing houses, it is her self-published books that I have actually enjoyed the most, including this new one! The characters are interesting, and the setting of the Cafe and the small town on a werewolf reservation is not only fun, but opens up to a world of possibilities as the series continues. I look forward to learning more about Lizzie's past and this new world. I also really like Lizzie's relationship with her familiar Belle--having the familiar be human is something I have never seen before.

If you love fantasy novels like I do, don't miss Blood Kissed! It has everything you could possibly want: magic, vampires, werewolves, zombies, mystery, great characters, and an interesting plot! I can't wait for the next book!
