James was a fugitive from a manslaughter charge. When he was in high school eighteen years ago, he had taken a baseball bat and dropped two attackers who were doing their best to kill his closest friend, Greg. When his slimy, low level Mafia connected, bookie brother-in-law, Maurice threatened James over money that he had invested in a movie that James's ex-girlfriend was making, James returned to Ocean Beach to protect his sister Olivia, and her two kids. James believed that Maurice had torched Olivia's garage to force him into giving the money back.

With Greg's help, James envisions a way to kill Maurice and get away with it. Can they carry out their plan or is it all make believe, something they only dreamed about? Can Olivia keep FBI Agent Miles Milligan from learning that James is back in town? Can Greg live long enough to earn the reward that James has promised him for his help, so that his wife and daughter are taken care of when he is gone? This is a story about family, friendship, and justice!

I found this book to be enthralling and could not put it down! Does the end justify the means, or is it a sin to take justice into your own hands? The characters and background are extremely well done. The plot takes you thru many twists and turns before delivering an explosive ending! A mixture of thriller, suspense, and mystery with religious overtones. A must read for any fan of classic noir!

  1. Just the right thriller to move me out of my "cozy" habit. The right themes...family and justice.
