When New York PI Barney Moon responded to an urgent text message from his old friend Saul Flockman, he was pretty certain Saul was again convinced his lovely wife was cheating on him and wanted to hire Barney to find out. What he didn't know is that this investigation would take him to his least favorite place on planet earth, Los Angeles!

Barney tries to say no to the job, but after being promised it would only take a day or two he gives in, and against his better judgment, heads to LA. The job also includes checking on Saul's concern about a financial investment. Barney doesn't drive, so beautiful and bright Melodie Seaver becomes his driver in LA and helps him keep from going crazy in la la land. Or at least she tries. However, the job ends up being way more complicated than expected and he finds himself in the middle of several very dangerous and crazy situations involving an ineptly planned fake terrorist plot, the mob, and a stolen screenplay. Can Barney survive all of this and save the day? More importantly, can he survive Los Angeles?

If you enjoy old-fashioned detective novels, A Major Production is the book for you. Barney is witty, sarcastic, smart, and funny. The mystery is interesting and filled with twists and turns, and unlike Barney, I love the LA/Hollywood setting! It's also fun to see Barney as such a fish out of water in LA--a place author Thomas Sawyer knows all too well!
