After a couple of years, Alyson Prescott, well, really Amanda Parker, was finally out of danger from the mob and able to leave the Witness Protection Program, so she and her mother headed back to their old life. A rewarding end to Kathi Daley’s seven-book Seacliff High Mystery series. Now back by popular demand, and ten years after Amanda left Cutter’s Cove, Oregon, for New York, circumstances (more like bad dreams) have her returning to help solve the cold case of a friend’s death. When she arrives, she discovers her special gift returns. She can still see ghosts! But she also discovered her gift for communing with the departed is made easier since she returned to Cutter’s Cove by the discovery, and not totally understanding how, a piece of her, a not-a-ghost image of Alyson, was left behind when she went to New York. Alyson is the manifestation of her teenage self who thinks and feels like Amanda, and shows up when she is most needed. Clever idea!

Missing by the Sea earns 5/5 Ghostly Apparitions…Entertaining Fun!

Amanda and her BFFs Mac and Trevor are taking a brisk hike through the woods, and along with enjoying the sights and sounds, they are wrangling a couple of dogs. Sunny, a young golden retriever still learning the word “stay,” strays from the group to explore on his own. Off to corral him, Amanda finds he’s found a bloody shoe, and Amanda? The niggling feeling, movement in the trees, and…“Is someone there?” She finds the apparition of a young woman with no memory of who she is or how she came to be…a ghost. The friends make a search of the area and unfortunately discover a blood trail and a shallow grave. Then along with her efforts to assist the ghost to move on, she receives a cryptic message with a photo from her past. She may have more killers from which to steer clear.

Again a favorite series with just the right amount of the paranormal. Not juvenile…no hocus-pocus. It all works well and is very engaging. The story may be set in October with the changing of seasons, harvesting of pumpkins, and prepping for Halloween activities, but Kathi Daley’s focus is on the mystery, the characters, and their interactions making “Missing by the Sea” perfect at anytime of the year. Although her characters were teens developed through the seven-book Seacliff High series, they continue to grow and act/react in entertaining ways. I am a fan of the first-person narrative which Kathi write very well. Readers, like myself, can put themselves in the story with an engaging “I” perspective that shares Amanda’s inner thoughts, descriptions, and emotions. Animal lovers, too, can enjoy how the “fur” friends are part of the family. And relationships, friends, and family are always at the center. Entertaining! Engaging! Clever!

Be a Big Kathi Daley Fan!

Kathi Daley has ten different series with a new one, The Inn at Holiday Bay, releasing in late November. She offers something for every cozy taste including “fur” friends and close relationship between family and friends. She has a great social media community of fans and can be followed on Goodreads and BookBub. Sign up for her newsletter.

Fall is here! That can only mean…Halloween? Maybe. Thanksgiving? Sure. But for me it is…pumpkin spice heaven! From lattes to scones, puddings to pies, the nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon becomes my go-to treat. I love exploring my favorite craft blog spot, evermine.com - Holidays, and from Kimberly, a designer at Evermine, I found a delightful twist to my favorite snack…Pumpkin Spice Caramel Corn. I also found that replacing the popcorn with peanuts is delicious and your favorite homemade Chex Mix gets a delicious bump!
