Caitlin Bergman left her college campus about twenty years ago, just four credits short of a diploma. It hasn’t hurt her career. She’s an award-winning investigative journalist and back on campus to receive an honorary degree bestowed by her oldest friend.

It’s during the question and answer period following the ceremony that a student asks why she’s back now—is there a story to be had? Yes, but it’s not what anyone would expect, and it’s a bombshell, even a bit to Cait. She hadn’t planned to talk about it to anyone, much less announce it to the public.

The questioning student is Lakshmi. Her mission is to find out what happened when her friend Angela disappeared two years ago. It’s known Angela partied with two male friends, but they say she walked home alone late at night. Their story is flimsy, but there’s no proof that they’re lying.

Angela is not the only woman to go missing.

Cait gets caught up in Lakshmi’s need to know the truth. Where Lakshmi runs headlong in an attempt to bully those whose help she needs, Cait knows how to work with people to get what she wants—and how to go around them when necessary.. With the help of Mike Roman a semi-private eye, Mary, Lakshmi, and a couple of police detectives, Cait is able to discover more in two weeks than the police found in two years—but it comes at great personal cost.

"Come and Get Me" is a fast-paced, page-turner of a thriller. Readers will have trouble deciding which is a clue and which is a red herring, as it should be. Cait can work the system but can be equally abrasive and annoying when she thinks the situation calls for it. As she follows the threads of Angela’s disappearance, she’s led into unexpected territory. Short chapters from the perpetrator’s point of view are chilling without exposing identity.

This is a debut thriller and bursts onto the page in a no-holds-barred, attention-grabbing, can’t-put-it-down style. Expect to find this on my Best of 2019 list. This is a good year for books—that list is getting long already.
