Detective Maeve Brennan has been chosen to lead a multi-agency task force to investigate the brutal and sadistic murders of eight young women. The bodies have been found in a variety of places, out in the open with their eyes and mouth sewed shut and their ears removed. Their bodies are covered in cuts and magic marker lines that make no sense when viewed. Nothing can be found to link these women together, and the task force, after several months, are still clueless in their investigation.

Maeve and FBI liaison David Willinger are on a road trip checking out each of the previous crime scenes when they receive word that a new body has been found. As the task force surveys the crime scene, everyone is hoping that the killer has made a mistake and left evidence behind, but nothing new presents itself. Then investigative journalist, Jonathon Boyd, comes forward and tells the task force he knows the killers identity. Is he on the level? With nothing else to go on Maeve and David listen to Jonathon's story and set things in motion to prove or disprove his theory. Will this new information lead them to the killer and a conviction?

The unique thing about this book is that we know who the killer is from the beginning. His life and thoughts are shared with us from the beginning. I found this to be a chilling and entertaining read while waiting for the killer to be caught. An unusual approach that kept me reading to the very end, wondering if they would or would not catch the killer.
