Jonathan Grave runs a security company. Behind the scenes, his specialty is recovery, as in if you are kidnapped, he will pay the ransom, deal with the kidnappers, and bring you home, safe and sound. Of course, that’s as long as everyone plays by the rules. That seldom goes according to plan.

This time the worst case scenario is happening in small town USA. Multiple terrorist attacks are occurring simultaneously across the country, in places where we should all feel secure. Making people afraid to leave the house is a terrorist goal, and they’re reaching it without any difficulty.

The only clue left behind is one of the mass shooters, wounded. A Good Samaritan on the scene was able to pinpoint where the shooter was and go after him. With the slightest intel, how will Jonathan be able to stop an enemy called Retribution?

Working with the FBI, Jonathan begins to wonder just who he can trust. With the entire country the target, how can local law enforcement protect its citizenry?

In this tale, readers will find out more about Venice’s personal life. She’s the anchor behind the computer, the one who relays information in a nanosecond, makes another exit plan when the first one blows up, provides a plane at a moment’s notice. In Total Mayhem, she steps away from the keyboard and introduces the love of her life to her job, her co-workers, and to readers.

One of the things I like best about this series is that it’s not all chase scenes or shoot ‘em ups. There are moments of humor, glimpses into each character’s personality, and total loyalty in the group. A dense plot, an almost impossible task, characters to root for, and lives to save—what more could you ask from a book?

This is the thirteenth book in the series. Jonathan’s adventures are not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. When hunting the enemy, his policy is shoot first, ask questions if anyone survives. As always, Gilstrap provides a page-turner, fast-paced, hold-your-breath thriller that will keep you up at night to finish the book (almost 500 pages) and then to hope if anything ever happens to you, someone like Jonathan exists and will come to your rescue.
