Of course, one of the kids has to go to the attic, where he discovered an old trunk. Inside is a truly scary find: a dead body. Beth calls her father, and he responds. But who is the body? How long has it been there? And why?
I confess, I love all of Marilyn Meredith’s mysteries. They are often taken from current headlines. Writing as F.M. Meredith, she has created the believable small town of Rocky Bluff, California, similar to many of the towns dotting the coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Through the series, I have loved getting to know the members of the Rocky Bluff Police Department. They change and evolve from book to book.

In this one, Doug gets a new partner, a know-it-all, who leers at women and takes every opportunity to intimidate them. Doug is patient and tries to be understanding, but the new guy remains unrepentant.

Every time I open a new book in the series, I feel as though I’m coming home to visit with old friends. This one does not disappoint.
