Life in Maine is Filled with Mystery!

It’s been a year, and Abby Sullivan has transformed her life from grieving widow to successful innkeeper. The tragic death of her husband and young child and discovery of some secrets about her husband are not far from her thoughts, but living in Holiday Bay, Maine, renovating and opening the Inn, becoming a popular destination and busy promoting special events, rekindling her writing career and enjoying a tight circle of friends has been the perfect fresh start. However, there’s always a mystery or a dozen to entice Abby away from writing deadlines or business with her guests. But, whatever happens she has an important support system: BFF/business partner Georgia Carter, handyman Lonny Parker, along with his wife and six kids, assistant Jeremy Slater and his young niece, steady shop and café owners, and a trio of “fur” friends. Her relationship with her sister Annie, who lives on the west coast, is on the mend, but it’s the close friendship, resembling a budding romance, between her and Police Chief Colt Wilder that offers her greatest distraction. He also provides that official law enforcement connection when odd occurrences, mysterious events, or suspicious deaths check in. The Inn at Holiday Bay is the most delightful and “cozy” destination!

Blizzard In the Bay earns 5/5 Plot Twists...Totally Engaging!
The Inn is going to host a writers’ retreat. When the original location fell through, Abby was approached by her agent Kate about hosting the event for her newest writers, writers of varying ages, status, genres, styles, and not without a few mysterious dramas. The professional mentor set to take charge is Dax Sherman, an old writing buddy with whom Abby had once found herself attracted even though at the time she was engaged to her late husband. Now, although slow, there’s the relationship with Colt, so her apprehension in seeing Dax after all these years has her contemplating running away for the duration. But, it turned out to be like seeing an old friend...relaxed, pleasant, and is that a spark? Well, maybe, but all thoughts and feelings are put aside when Abby receives a very early morning phone call from Dax informing her he’s at the police station being questioned about the murder of his old friend’s brother. Six guys. Poker game. Stranger in need. Pizza delivery. Murder. Secrets. Storm brewing...literally and figuratively.

Brilliant! Kathi Daley has penned another excellent drama with her ninth book in The Inn at Holiday Bay series. Her writing style is a treat with language that brings about marvelous pictures of the wintery environment and dialogue that does well to illustrate tone and emotions and the various personalities from naive to in-the-know, from quiet to outspoken, from innocent to suspicious. The drama often unfolds in conversations and retelling discoveries, not a lot of legwork and surveillance due to the “blizzard by the bay,” but not to say there isn’t some surprises or “watch out” moments all leading to a great twist! She has created for this series a set of well-developing characters responding and reacting in a manner that is realistic, so in them you can see friends, family, and acquaintances making the drama engaging...the “I” perspective gives me a vicarious role. Abby has been gaining her footing since the death of her husband and child, and although she still has to deal with her fears and lapses in confidence, she has gained strength and a better understanding of what she wants. That has been fun to watch...read!

I do miss recipes [Insert sigh] in this series. Georgia is the Inn’s chef and star of a local weekly cooking show, so sharing some of her recipes mentioned in the story would be have been a great bonus. The homemade dressing on a pear and pine nut salad?

Alert! Number nine in The Inn at Holiday Bay series is set to release on March 10, 2020. In Proof in the Photo “a newly engaged couple rents out the entire inn for their engagement party. As part of their 'making memories' theme, they asks guests to take photos and share them with the group. Everyone is having a wonderful time until one of the guests turns up dead.” Amazon Preorder HERE
