A Broken Woman is the third book in Dharma Kelleher’s series featuring transgender bounty hunter Jinx Ballou. Jinx is still dealing with the after effects of having been outed in an article without her consent, finding it hard to get work due to people’s prejudice. As if that wasn’t enough, she is struggling just to get out of bed, let alone rebuild her life, after a series of bombings in Phoenix shattered the city and her life.

When a much needed job offer comes her way, she can’t really afford to say no, even though the job is to bring in a transgender woman named Zia who has already faced beatings in jail when she was arrested, and whose odds of getting a fair trial aren’t good. Normally Jinx doesn’t worry about whether someone is guilty or not, but this time may be different. Zia is part of a biker gang, and they say that she is innocent and refuse to let Jinx get anywhere near her. Jinx ends up teaming up with them to try to find the real killer.

Jinx is an amazing and multi faceted character. She is a bad ass woman who also loves cosplaying as Wonder Woman on the side—Jinx truly is a “wonder woman.” As a cis gender woman I have really enjoyed being able to get a better understanding of what a transgender person goes through by following Jinx’s life. Pair that with lots of action, some unexpected romance, great characters, and an interesting mystery, and you couldn’t ask for more.

I highly recommend this book and this series and I can’t wait for more! You can check out our review of the first book in this series, Chaser, here.
