Details on how to win a copy of this book at the end of the review and links to purchase it.

Poppy McAllister moved in with her Aunt Ginny six months ago. Together they run a B&B. Poppy also does the baking for ex-boyfriend Tim’s restaurant and for Gia’s coffee shop. That brings complications because she kinda loves them both. Resistance is futile as they say.

The Senior Center is putting on its first play, due to open on Friday the 13th. Royce, a Broadway actor also famous in London for his Shakespearian work, will play the lead in a senior version of Mamma Mia! His ex-acting partner, Blanche, is the female lead. Ginny is Blanche’s understudy and none too happy about it.

The actors can’t remember their lines, including Royce who spouts Shakespeare whenever he forgets. There are a number of accidents on set, leading to Royce’s theory someone is out to kill him. Poppy is stuck in the midst of it all because Ginny and her three friends (the biddies) volunteered Poppy to handle the lighting. It’s just as well. Considering the amount of trouble they get into when she’s watching them, who knows what would happen if she wasn’t there to run interference?

When a death occurs at the theater, it’s ruled an accident, but the biddies think it was murder and want to investigate. Mostly that means announcing their outlandish plans, knowing Poppy will step in and do their dirty work for them. Sometimes with their help. From giving themselves code names on their Sponge Bob walkie talkies to going to a biker bar and conning the bikers out of a wad of cash, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Full of twists and turns and hilarity, this is the third book in the series and the best one yet due to the antics of the biddies who test Poppy’s sanity. There are a lot of characters, but they’re easily sorted out. With lines like “The biddies are like spider monkeys. They’re cute until you’re responsible for them. Then they create mass destruction,” and “The room was dark, loud, and full of bad decisions and future regrets,” it’s got to be good.

Be prepared to be hungry as Poppy bakes fabulous desserts. Luckily, she shares paleo recipes for chocolate muffins with strawberries and chocolate chips, and carrot cake muffins with rum raisins. Gluten-free recipes include strawberry muffins with white chocolate chips, cinnamon streusel coffee cake, cranberry orange oatmeal bars, apple pie crumb muffins, and pink champagne cupcakes. Put Abba on in the background as you bake, just for atmosphere, of course.
