Anderson West is one of the good guys, a truly caring and nice private investigator. He is a widower with two young children, his mother makes her home with him, and he keeps his out of control sister employed at his P.I. firm, West Investigations.

Jessica Smith, a twenty-something restaurant hostess, came to consult with West Investigations about getting disturbing phone calls for about six weeks. Calls with no name and no spoken word. However things escalated when she began getting calls at work, at the gym, and at church; each time with the same low, raspy voice. She had notified the police, but they weren't very helpful. She bought a gun. She went to West Investigations as a last resort, and West's sister Carrie talked him into taking the case pro bono. However, the messages become more threatening including photographs and notes.

As West and his crew dig into Jessica's background, they find several suspects to check out and a lot of blank spaces in Jessica's past. Is the pastor or the church handyman or maybe the youth director at her church involved? What about the manager or bartender at her restaurant job? Could it be one of them? What about the guys who frequent or work at her gym? Did she make one of them mad with a rejection? Then we have her old and new boyfriends. Is she seeing both of them? What about all the blanks in her background? What is she hiding or not telling West about? Does Jessica know more than she is letting on about this stalker?

This was a taut well-written thriller that kept me turning the pages to find out who was stalking Jessica and why. The story flows smoothly and keeps your interest at all times. The characters are life-like and believable. The author keeps the thrill of the hunt alive throughout the book but wrapped everything up in a nice manner. I highly recommend this as a great mystery and thriller read.
