Life in Maine with Friends and Mystery!
Abby Sullivan’s transformation from grieving widow to successful innkeeper has afforded her a close connection to the small community of Holiday Bay, Maine. But, it is the endearing group of friends who’ve become close as family that have been the support she needed when moments of sadness occur over the tragic death of her husband and young child. Abby has become best friends and cottage-mate to Georgia Carter, and under her management and delicious food, has been key to making the Inn a very popular destination to all sorts of guests who seek a quiet rest or a place to celebrate holidays and life’s milestones. Abby, therefore, has had time to rekindle her successful writing career, even though she can be easily led astray by a mystery or two which always seems to occur. More the merrier, it seems, with friends and Inn employees playing an important role in her life from handyman Lonny Parker, his wife and decorator Lacy and their six kids to assistant-manager Jeremy Slater and his young niece Annabelle from Velma at the Café to a trio of delightful and demanding “fur” friends. With the passage of time, Abby is entertaining the idea of pursuing a more romantic relationship with “good friend” Colt Wilder, the local police chief who shares tales of his current case load and provides an official law enforcement connection when those distracting mysteries check in. The Inn at Holiday Bay is the perfect “cozy” destination!

Proof in the Photo earns 5/5 Rocky Cliffs...Engaging Fun!
The last murder mystery made a disaster of Abby and Colt’s Valentine’s Day plans, and the unfortunate disaster at the jail postponed their romantic getaway. So, she’s feeling a bit emotional with her friends having marvelous uninterrupted relationships and the upcoming weekend engagement festivities. The bride Fiona Arlington, daughter of a multimillionaire, wants something different from her friends, something more “quaint and commonplace.” The inn is quaint, but Maine is a bit muddy at this time of year. With the plans and special accommodations set, Abby and Georgia join Lacy on an antiques buying trip; chairs to complete an antique dining set have been found for a family renovating their local family summerhouse. Baron Chadwick inherited the house from his grandfather, and although the house was usually just a summer retreat and not used much lately, he hopes to make it his family’s dwelling. But, several fascinating mysteries, a century past, surround the house and family piquing both Georgia’s and Abby’s interest: two unsolved suspicious accidents, letters found locked in an old safe, evidence of an illicit affair...oooh, a juicy mystery! But the engagement gathering may be the mystery on which they’ll need to closely focus, especially when a missing person turns to a dead body.

Brilliant! Again, Kathi Daley has provided the “proof” she can take readers on an entertaining journey. This particular series set at the Inn at Holiday Bay is a personal favorite, and I greatly enjoy when a cold case, originally determined accidental or felony left unsolved, becomes part of the drama. Using my favorite first-person narrative through Abby’s perspective, giving me a vicarious role, the history and background of the Chadwick family, connections of characters, and past and present clues are uncovered and discussed often with input from law enforcement to make it very realistic. I enjoy Kathi’s writing style as it provides a clear picture of the setting and characters and illustrates well tone and personalities, but when the Inn is at full capacity there’s a lot of names to keep track of and with several names somewhat similar I’m really double checking; it’s easier with my eBook copy. Both mysteries are very entertaining rich with twists, secrets, revelations, and very satisfying conclusions. I read this series for the mystery or two trying to guess the ending, but I like the budding romance between Abby and Colt and enjoy the realistic hits and misses. I really recommend this series, and while so much has transpired over the nine books, newbies can join in here!

Alert! Next! The tenth book in the Inn at Holiday Bay, Gossip in the Garden, will release in spring.
