Friends and Mysteries!
Abby Sullivan is a successful innkeeper rising above her personal tragedy and creating the Inn at Holiday Bay as a popular destination. Making sure guests are well attended and fed is the job of best friend and manager/chef Georgia Carter along with assistant manager Jeremy Slater, whose little niece Annabelle is eager to be of help. Now that the Inn is running smoothly Abby has plenty of time to devote to her successful writing career, although she can be easily led astray by a mystery, a visitor, or a walk with the dogs. Good friend and mother of six Lacy Parker is a professional decorator and always eager for a bit of antique hunting and information gathering; she can always count on husband Lonny, building contractor, to take the kids. There’s in-town residents like Velma at the Café who offer much needed insights, and a trio of delightful and demanding “fur” friends to add fun to Abby’s life. Although time has not healed all wounds from her tragic loss of her husband and young child, Abby is more receptive to see what becomes of her involvement with good friend Colt Wilder, the local police chief, but it seems when they make plans, something interrupts them. He is the official law enforcement connection needed when those distracting mysteries check in, but is he also the cure to mend a broken heart? The Inn at Holiday Bay isn’t all cozy corners and scones...there are mysteries to be solved!

Gossip in the Garden earns 5/5 Pints of Brew...Engaging & Mysterious Fun!
Abby’s writing career has been going well, and exploring the area in and around Holiday Bay, she has discovered perfect motivation for her new novel...The Chadwick House. Of course, all real-life details will be disguised to protect the Chadwick family, but their story is too rich with drama to be overlooked. The house is being renovated and with Lonnie and Lacy involved in the project, Abby’s been able to tag along and explore finding a family journal and possible evidence of a secret room. A visit to the historical society for more insights seemed a waste since they were closed, but Abby is invited in by Patrick Montoya, one of the volunteers. He seemed very knowledgeable of Chadwick family details, so while he was packing up some of the display items to make room for new ones, they had an enlightening conversation. But, suspicions run amok when the old man turns up murdered, the items he packed up are missing, and the myths and legends behind some of the objects make them more valuable than just monetarily. Murder. Theft. Mystery.

Brilliant! Kathi Daley has another great book with this eleventh installment in The Inn at Holiday Bay series. The story about the Chadwick family started in Proof in the Photo, and although it is highly recommended newbies start there, it isn’t imperative. From a theft to murder to spelunking the mystery involves so many layers, but the idea of hidden treasure or an ancient native ritual seem to have little connection...maybe! Kathy Daley does, however, slowly reveal a jumble of clues (some found off the page) that kept me totally absorbed, and almost...almost, skipping to the end to find out what it is all about. Secrets and lies always seem to be uncovered, even with a bit of peril thrown in for good measure. Wow! Beyond the murder and drama surrounding the Chadwick house, life at the Inn is busy with a previous guest returning to search again for the “soulmate” she was led to believe resided there, preparations are in full swing for the Beer Garden being set up at the Inn for Lobsterfest, and dealing with the appearance of a mysterious older woman struggling with her memory. Abby and Colt are still trying to define their relationship, but their investigative partnership, although a purely “cozy” mystery reality, is still quite successful. Clever mystery, wonderful characters, and an entertaining writing style has made this series a personal favorite. I do like a bonus with my cozy, and with Georgia the Inn’s chef and star of the local “Cooking with Georgia” show, you’d think there would be a recipe or two...just saying!

Alert! The eleventh book Ghost in the Gallery is set to release 8/25/20. Abby is unaware of the odd occurrences at a local gallery when she agrees to volunteer at one of the events for the Halloween Festival: a wine and art competition. Some are saying the “shenanigans” may be due to a resident ghost.
