In Drama Runway, it is spring break and Nicky is directing a runway show for the Fashion Department. His husband Noah is helping, as is their best friend and department head Martin Anderson. Their teenaged son, Taavi, is also helping out, and is one of the models. The show is getting a lot of attention because they are modeling fashions by famous designer and visiting professor Ulla Ultimate. When models start dying, Nicky is determined to find out who the killer is, not only to save the show but also his reputation as an amateur sleuth—apparently bodies dropping during Nicky’s productions has become a trend, but he always manages to catch the killer, much to the frustration of a local homicide cop.

The fashion show is filled with tension, fighting, and backstabbing, so finding the killer proves to be a challenge. Among the suspects are Ulla’s spoiled and angry son, a fashion student who is threatening to sue the school if she doesn’t get to take over the show, and a fashion teacher whose career is being threatened by blackmail. And of course all of the other models and the crew behind the scenes.

I have never read a book so filled with puns and comedic sarcasm. At first I wasn’t sure what to think, but once I realized this book was as much comedy and camp as it was mystery (Nicky has seen more murders than Jessica Fletcher--it’s a wonder there’s anyone left at that school) I was on board for the ride, and what a hilarious one it was! The mystery is also complicated and filled with numerous twists and turns—never once did I suspect whom the killer turned out to be.

If you are looking for a mystery that will have you laughing all the way through, don’t miss Drama Runway. I do recommend if you haven’t read the previous books in the series that you should start with those so you get to enjoy watching the relationships develop. Nicky and Noah’s relationship is a lot of fun.

While this book is a cozy for the most part, be aware there is a lot of sexual language throughout the book.
