 Delivering Mystery

Tess Thomas has been the mail carrier for residents of White Eagle, Montana, for several years, but her passion for animals has led her to quit her position and work at the shelter full time with her friend and local veterinarian who trains dogs for search and rescue missions. Along with her dogs and training schedule, she is excited about her upcoming year one wedding anniversary, anticipating the birth of her first niece, and enjoying subbing as the mail carrier, again, now that Harriet has broken her leg and is on medical leave. Her husband, Tony Marconi, is busy working his computer magic for a new client, her mom is enjoying a new beau and boat, and spring is in the air making all the flora and fauna come to life. However, it isn’t all marital bliss, family milestones, fur friend companions, and good weather for Tess, there have been mysteries, shocking revelations, and murder, but with friends and family, and a cop for a brother, she’s always in good hands.

Tess’s mail rounds, partnered with her Golden Retriever Tilly, has been a walk down memory lane filled with some smiles, some gossip, and some butterscotch candy. She also drops in to check in with her sister-in-law Bree for an update on her pregnancy, and after a text from her brother Mike, she rushes off to the police station. When she enters, she sees her brother in an absolute tizzy with a screaming baby in his arms. He looks totally out of his element, and he with Dadhood just around the corner. Mike explains he had been reviewing police reports when his own Dad walked into the station, handed him the child, and disappeared out the back door. His Dad’s story is quite a mystery from faked deaths, international intrigue, and decades living underground, so it was a shocking appearance. Yet more disconcerting than seeing one’s elusive father, is that he said the child was in danger and needed to be hidden and protected. Who is this child? What danger? And more importantly, is the danger going to ensnare everyone? But, it’s the dead body washed up on shore that adds another layer to the mystery and magnifies the worries for everyone’s safety.

Delivering Entertainment! Kathi Daley has penned the eleventh book in her Tess and Tilly Cozy  Mystery series with a baby, a murder, and an encrypted flash drive. The mystery connected to Tess’s dad, his covert work and suspicious behavior, once again puts everyone on alert. The fascinating story has been evolving throughout the series although many of the what-s and why-s are not always resolved and most of his work is off the page and not explored in depth. But, the murder mystery has a few twists and turns and a shocking connection. Although there is the fascinating idea of keeping secrets, covert communications, and an air of danger, the story doesn’t have that action or direct peril. The story is a relaxing read with endearing characters, realistic discussions about everyone’s future, compelling “family always comes first” dynamic, and a continuation of Tess’s dad’s intriguing story.
