TERF Wars is the fourth book in the Jinx Ballou series by Dharma Kelleher. Jinx is a bounty hunter and a transgender woman. Jinx always gets her man or woman, but this time it is more than just a bounty, this one is personal. Jinx is on the trail of Blair Marshall, a fugitive who brutally murdered a transgender woman in a public restroom.

Blair is a member of a feminist anti trans hate group called TERFs. The word TERF is an acronym meaning transgender-exclusive radical feminist. As a trans woman herself, Jinx is more determined than ever to bring this bigoted killer to justice, but Blair’s fellow TERF members are thwarting Jinx at every turn. Jinx finds herself in the middle of a war of media manipulation, disinformation, and deep-faked videos that paint a target on Jinx’s back and puts those around her in grave danger.  

In the midst of all of this, Jinx is getting ready for her wedding in a few days to fellow bounty hunter Conor Doyle. And as if that wasn’t enough for her to deal with, things go terribly wrong at her bachelorette party in Vegas.

TERF Wars is an action-packed adventure filled with great characters, but it is also more than that. The book dives deep into issues of identity and intersectionality, oppression, and bigotry. So many people have no idea what the transgender community goes through, and knows nothings about TERFs—this is vital information that we all should be aware of and appalled by. As one of the only openly transgender crime authors out there, Dharma is uniquely qualified to tell this tale.

This is a wonderfully written book with great, realistic characters. It will have you on the edge of your seat, but also make you think, and inspire you as you see Jinx’s determination to bring about justice and not let herself be defeated no matter how tough it gets. I highly recommend this book and this series, but I recommend that you start with book one so you can follow Jinx on her journey from the beginning. I can’t wait for the next one!
