The Graveyard of God’s Name is the 12th book in the Have Body, Will Guard series by Neil S. Plakcy, but it is the first of the series that I have read. However, after reading this one, I can tell you I will definitely be going back to read the rest.

Danny Cardozo is a young gay student at Oxford who has spent two terms studying dead languages and exploring history. In his heart, he longs to be a world-traveling scholar like Indiana Jones. As he searches for an ancient manuscript that could make his career, an older man entrusts him with an ancient scroll that turns out to be a copy of the Biblical book of Leviticus. The revelations that he discovers could build his career as a scholar, but someone is trying to take it from him and they are willing to do anything to get it—even kill. Danny reaches out to his cousin for help, and he hires close-protection partners Aidan Greene and Liam McCullough to protect Danny and find out who is after the manuscript.

It was fascinating to learn some Jewish history and about how a scroll is translated. The intrigue behind who was after the scroll kept me on the edge of my seat worried what might happen to Danny and the older man helping him translate. I loved the relationship between Aidan and Liam, who also happen to be married. They are a wonderful couple, with great chemistry and fascinating backgrounds. The mystery was complex and filled with exciting twists and turns.

I wasn’t at all lost jumping into the series this far in, but would highly recommend starting with book one. I look forward to going back myself and reading the first 11 books! Don’t miss this exciting and intriguing mystery with great characters!
