Broken Bonds is the eighth book in the Lizzie Grace series by Keri Arthur. Lizzie is a witch and a psychic who was on the run for thirteen years from her powerful magical family who blamed her for her sister’s death, and who trapped her in an unwanted marriage. However, she is not alone; she has her best friend and familiar Belle. The pair now runs a tea and psychic consulting business on a werewolf reservation in Australia.
Much has happened in the last few books and Lizzie and Belle are no longer in hiding. Lizzie is trying to enjoy her time with werewolf and reservation ranger Aiden O’Connor while she still can—to say things are complicated is an understatement. Sadly, things in that arena have taken a turn for the worse and Lizzie fears that their time together may be shorter than she expected. On top of that, she has to deal with a new evil on the reservation whose kills are very specific and targeted.
As the horrific murders continue, Lizzie, her cousin and reservation witch Monty, and Aiden, struggle to find answers and stop the killings. To make things even more complicated, Lizzie begins to suspect there is way more to the situation than meets the eye, especially after the killer helps save the life of a child.
Much seems to be coming to a head for Lizzie as she becomes even more connected to the powerful wellspring on the reservation and doesn’t know what that is ultimately going to mean for her. She also isn’t looking forward to having to go home for her father’s trial.
Keri Arthur has created a fascinating world and lore. The characters are wonderful and complex. My favorite books to read are those that combine mystery with fantasy and this series does that beautifully—throwing in a bit of romance as well. I can’t wait for the next book to see where things go from here—not only what happens to Lizzie and Aiden, but I also love the relationship between Belle and Monty. I highly recommend this book and this series, but be sure to start from the beginning. This book will definitely be on my Best Books of 2021 list!
