Give Yourself the Gift of the New Audiobook

I have a special holiday gift for you. Want to visit a Scottish castle during the holidays for only the cost of an audiobook? While visiting Scotland, my spouse and I had the incredible experience of staying in a real castle. When I say “castle,” I don’t only mean a beautiful hotel. I’m talking about a bridge over a moat leading to a sprawling stone structure from the 1700s with turrets, fireplaces, knight in armor, and coat of arms. The Great Hall (dining room) inside was full of wait staff serving us the most delectable meals we had ever eaten.

Our room included an enormous canopy bed—a la Scrooge’s bed in A Christmas Carol, stone fireplace, a wardrobe out of C.S. Lewis, a turreted window seat, burgundy curtains, and leather chairs. From our enormous windows, we could see a turquoise lake swirling through an emerald-green meadow, a steep cliff towering over the white-capped ocean, and violet fields of heather. We truly felt like the lords of the castle! It didn’t take long for me to realize I had to set the seventh Nicky and Noah mystery in a Scottish castle. And I did!

Now a few years later, it’s my great pleasure to announce an audiobook version performed by the man of a thousand voices, okay maybe just a hundred voices, the mega-talented Griswold Addams. When listening to the audiobook, you’ll feel like you are really at the castle with Nicky and Noah! What could be a better holiday gift?

For those of you who haven’t yet been baptized in Nicky and Noah land, the Nicky and Noah mysteries is a gay cozy mystery comedy series—meaning the setting is warm and cozy, the clues and murders (and laughs) come fast and furious, and there are enough plot twists and turns and a surprise ending to keep the pages. At the center is the touching relationship between Associate Professor of Directing Nicky Abbondanza and Assistant Professor of Acting Noah Oliver. We watch them go from courting to marrying to adopting a child, all the while head over heels in love with each other (as we fall in love with them). Reviewers called the series hysterically funny farce, Murder She Wrote meets Hart to Hart meets The Hardy Boys, and captivating whodunits. One reviewer wrote they are the funniest books she’s ever read! In Drama Queen (Divine Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Award for Favorite LGBT Mystery, Humorous, and Contemporary Novel of the Year), Nicky directs the school play at Treemeadow College—which is named after its gay founders, Tree and Meadow. Theatre professors drops like stage curtains, and Nicky and Noah have to use their theatre skills, including impersonating other people, to figure out whodunit. Drama Muscle, Drama Cruise, Drama Luau, Drama Detective, and Drama Fraternity followed.

Now in Drama Castle, Nicky is directing a historical film co-starring Noah and Taavi at Conall Castle in Scotland: When the Wind Blows Up Your Kilt It’s Time for A Scotch. Rounding out the cast are members of the mysterious Conall family who own the castle. When hunky men in kilts topple off the drawbridge and into the moat, it’s up to Nicky and Noah to use their acting skills to figure out whodunit before Nicky and Noah land in the dungeon. Nicky and Noah are joined by their best friends and fan favorites Martin and Ruben, and by Noah’s eccentric parents. And book seven adds a number of captivating new characters like Brody Naughton, the hunky head of Housekeeping with a red beard and roving eye for the oldest Conall brother, Barclay, and for Donal Blair a waiter in the castle’s Great Hall dining room. Each of the three hunky Conall brothers (Barclay, Magnus, and Fergus) have a surprising secret, and Noah makes a shocking revelation.

Since the Nicky and Noah mysteries are rife with humor, drama, romance, and mystery, they are perfect for audiobook incarnations. As is the case with this seventh audiobook in the series, the narrator is vitally important to bring the stories to audio life. This is my fourth audiobook gay marriage (no pun intended) with Griswold Addams, and he is a true gem. As Nicky might say, “I’m happier than a conservative politician removing environmental protections.” Griswold has the perfect sense of humor, comic timing, acting chops, diversity, and in this case, a witty and wonderful way (try saying that three times fast while blowing bubbles) with a Scottish brogue. Once again he brought the beloved leading players, captivating suspects, dastardly victims, and surprise murderer to audiobook life. His advanced studio equipment assisted Griswold in creating a highly professional stellar audiobook experience. You’ll marvel at Griswold’s performance, laugh, feel romantic, enjoy trying to solve the murder mystery, shed a tear, and gasp at the shocking ending.

It is my joy and pleasure to share this seventh audiobook in the series with you. Give yourself a Scottish holiday gift! Take your seat. The curtain is going up on steep cliffs, ancient turrets, stormy seas, misty moors, malfunctioning kilts, and murder! Happy listening!

  1. I enjoy stories, especially murder mysteries, in “bucket list” worthy locales. A Scottish castle seems the perfect setting! Add a little humor and I’m in!

  2. The reason I like books with gay characters is that they more accurately mirror the world around us and show those who may not know many gay people that sexuality is just a small part of who a person is. Personally, gay men are my kryptonite! Most are funny and make excellent friends. Add in a Scottish castle, and I'm there! My great grandfather came from Scotland and I hope to visit one day. The brogue, the scenery, the history! What's not to love? I also love audiobooks and will probably end up buying them whether I win or not but, fingers crossed, I hope I win!
