Farm to Fork to...Murder?

Angie Turner has made quite a name for herself successfully rising from the ashes of a failed San Francisco restaurant. Here in her hometown, River Vista, Idaho, she has turned The County Seat, a farm-to-fork restaurant, into a popular dining destination. From the kitchen crew and wait staff to her partner/BFF Felicia Williams and hunky ex-pat boyfriend Ian MacNeal, they have all become very important to Angie and extremely supportive when a bit of mayhem and murder is on the menu. Her BFF is marrying the restaurant’s sous chef, and Angie is worried about spoiling their plans to hold the upcoming nuptials at the Turner farm. The predicted spring rain may make the venue more muddy than magical, and on second thought, Precious the goat, Mable the chicken, and Dom the St. Bernard may be more disruptive than delightful. She’s relieved to learn Felicia’s “my wedding is ruined” tears are not about needing a last-minute Plan B…it’s about her family!

A Fatal Family Feast
earns 5/5 Wedding Woes…Engaging Page-Turner!

Felicia’s wealthy Boston family had an unwavering idea of the type of man she should marry, and despite Estebe Blackstone‘s financial security, his Basque heritage and sous chef employment doesn’t fit. The family agrees to attend, but her father refuses to walk her down the aisle. Further stress arrives when Felicia receives a text message and, under the guise of a dress fitting, she and Angie go to meet the sender…Jason Anderson Roberts III, Felicia’s former fiancĂ©. He claims he wants to offer his congratulations in person, but in reality, he’s been sent by her father to further demand she cancel the wedding, return to Boston, and more personally, start up again with Mr. Suit and Tie. Family…can’t live with them, can’t run away from them, can’t…murder! Jason is dead, and the lead detective has Estebe in his sights!

Here Comes the…Fun! Lynn Cahoon’s sixth novel in her Farm-to-Fork Mystery has everyone working to make Felicia’s wedding memorable, but the drama immediately ramps up with family dissension, veiled threats and personal insults flying, and questions whether the wedding will even happen when the groom comes under suspicion of murder. To challenge my inner detective there are other motives to connect to the death of Felicia’s ex since his “fix-it” employment with Felicia’s father might raise some interesting conflicts along with surprising connections and past tragedies. The lead detective’s myopic focus exacerbates a longtime grudge, giving Angie, of course, personal motivation to insert herself, and the “Scooby-Doo gang,” into the case. The well-plotted story is quite compelling with characters I’ve come to enjoy under such a dark cloud, an air of prejudice against the local Basque community, and some perilous predicaments culminating in a shocking twist to the age-old motive of…revenge. Engaging. Compelling. Page-turner. Delicious…recipe included. It’s been another long busy day, but a nice meal is just minutes away. Enjoy Lynn Cahoon’s Workday Quick and Easy Risotto.
