It’s not the Surf that’s Up…it’s Murder!

Samantha Reynolds lost her job, by no fault of her own, but her fall back position was one of which many would take advantage. She relocated from Australia to Kauai, where her mother and twin brother Luke live, and accepted the job at the Aloha Lagoon Resort as their children’s surf instructor. But, it’s not all sand, surf, and tropical breezes…paradise can be problematic with a few suspicious deaths and friends in the sights of the police. Sure, she says she just wanted to be helpful, but if honest, she was a bit too nosy for her own good. Yet, she made good friends, enjoys her job, and her romance with blue-eyed Brit Casey Dalton, head bartender at the resort’s Tiki Room, has bloomed to the, “...will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Please.” stage. With Casey’s family arriving from England for a holiday, Casey and Sam have planned a surprise for family and friends.

Tidal Wave earns 5/5 Cake Toppers…Exciting Fun!

Three weeks later…The guests had no idea that this family gathering was not an engagement party, but an appetizer to the main course—a surprise wedding ceremony. The wedding planner and good friend, Whitney, had managed a nice event, however last minute, but it’s the caterer, Vivienne Turner, that’s causing a kerfuffle in the kitchen. The resort also booked another party, as Olivia, Casey’s sister, informed all, for Kennedy King, popular star of the reality TV show At Home with the Kings, and his entourage. Rhiannon Caldwell, the caterer for that event, is furious with Vivienne over a stolen catering job and with a double booked kitchen, emotions are tense. But, the ceremony goes on, Sam’s brother escorts her into the room midst gasps and happy cheers as family and friends hear the wedding march. But, the excitement immediately turned chaotic as Whitney bursts into the room: “She’s, she’s…d…dead. Vivienne is dead!” The wedding is halted, the guests are confused, and the caterer is dead…head first in the lovely wedding cake.

Aloooha! It’s freezing outside, but I’m toasty reading Beth Prentice’s fourth book, Tidal Wave, in the Gemma Halliday Publishing multi-author Aloha Lagoon Mystery series. Incorporating cameos of other characters in the series, from resort staff to the lead investigator Detective Ray Kahoalani, it is a deliciously entertaining world. The murder entangles many in the event planning and catering community since the victim was very manipulative and made many attempts to sabotage the careers of her competition, but it gets more complex with a reality star and a senator at the resort. However, the murder is only one complication to Sam and Casey’s nuptials. Casey’s mother was not pleased with the surprise wedding; she wants Casey to return to his life in England fearing the marriage is a prelude for him getting dual citizenship, and adding an exclamation to her demands, she claims the murder is a bad omen, and the wedding should be cancelled. Of course, with Whitney at the top of the suspect list, Sam’s bent on helping her friend and proving this tragedy had nothing to do with the wedding. Fun. Clever details. Perilous moments. Surprise arrest. Beth has an entertaining writing style to engage the reader filled with marvelous descriptions of the resort and the people, and banter that illustrates personalities and tone. The informal methods used to uncover the killer are realistic along with the dynamic between Sam, her friends, and the detective. Loved it!
