"The Secrets We Share" By Edwin Hill: Review/Giveaway

 Review by Claire A. Murray

The Secrets We Share is filled with secrets about, between, and among families beginning with who killed Natalie and Glenn Abbot’s father almost twenty years ago and why.

Hill’s family characters are distinct and clearly different from each other, both in looks and their reactions to life events. Being the sixth of eight siblings, I totally get the dynamics of the Abbot sisters’ relationship.

Present-day Natalie tries to remain in the background of life, drinking her nights away in a bar, and functioning by day as a Boston cop. Glenn wants a public stage and is on the verge of her first published cookbook, a result of her successful cooking blog.

The story shifts back and forth in time and point of view, and throughout there’s an unnamed character whose first person point of view is calculating and ominous. In truth, there are many characters to track in this twisted tale of the old murder thought solved, although no one ever confessed or went to jail, and a fresh murder victim found by Glenn’s daughter Mavis.

Natalie’s relationship to Glenn and Mavis complicates her role, especially when she doesn’t share information with her partner in blue. The stakes increase when Glenn’s husband is murdered, and she is found holding the murder weapon. Natalie cannot work the case, but we know she will.

More secrets unfold, secrets that devastate the Abbot sisters and certainly will ruin them unless Natalie can uncover what links them all. There’s certainly far more here, but it all seems to go back to their father’s murder. Whose secret will reveal what really happened?

Edwin Hill’s first standalone thriller, preceded by his Hester Thursby suspense series, is his fourth novel. Filled with intrigue, suspense, and plot twists that take the reader on a tilt-a-whirl® of family pain and revelations, you won’t want to miss it. Take notes!
