"Mrs. Odboddy’s Desperate Doings" By Elaine Faber: Review/Giveaway

If you love funny, sometimes preposterous scenarios starring an often too-brave and spunky senior woman, Mrs. Odboddy’s Desperate Doings is for you.

I’ve read the other books in the series, and Agnes Odboddy continues to have quite dangerous adventures. Set in a small community in Northern California during WW II, the story is reminiscent of what life was like in war time—the rear of invasion by the enemy, food and gas rationing, no silk stockings, victory gardens, and the clothes people wore and lots more.

Mrs. Odboddy is courageous to the point of being a bit on the reckless side, and when she thinks she sees the local doctor stealing paintings from a neighbor’s home, she’s off to solve the mystery. Meanwhile, she also has to figure out what to do with a tiger—yes, a real tiger living in a cage on a nearby farm—when the city council wants it gone.

Of course, there are many complications, and Agnes Odboddy doesn’t always come up with logical or safe solutions. And there is also romance in the air for both Agnes Odboddy and her granddaughter.

This is a delightful jaunt into the past, with plenty of adventure, problems, and danger to keep you turning pages—plus a giggle here and there.
