Home is where the Magic Springs!

Mia Malone relocated to Magic Springs, a community with magical and non-magical residents, after breaking up with her boyfriend. Mia had long ignored her magical abilities, but now she is embracing life as a kitchen witch. She purchased St. Catherine’s Academy (an abandoned school), opened a catering business and cooking school (Mia’s Morsels), and is enjoying success (“making potions and food magic that make people happy and healthy”). Her new boyfriend, Trent Majors, owns the local grocer and has his own restrained feelings about his magical abilities, and his EMT brother Levi also has a quiet relationship with magic. Christina Adams, oddly Mia’s ex-boyfriend’s sister, is one of very few non-magical people who knows the truth about Magic Springs and it’s magical residents. She always liked Mia, and after a falling out with her own family, she is now Mia’s roommate, employee, a budding chef, and currently dating Levi. Magic and mischief always seem to interfere with their peace, and along with a diverse bunch, there’s a magically possessed cat, a kitchen witch doll familiar, and some ghosts that reside in the old school building. One big happy family!

Three Tainted Teas Earns 5/5 Family Feuds…Entertaining & Clever Fun!

Christina isn’t entirely onboard being ask to accept the last minute role as a bridesmaid replacing the bride’s cousin who cancelled. However, she’s not the only replacement needed for the Amethyst Uzzi and Tok McMann nuptials. Mia Malone is approached by Cassandra Uzzi, mother of the bride, to take on the wedding planner’s responsibilities who had been fired by the father of the bride, Drunder. Mia was surprised the woman didn’t flinch at the exorbitant fees she quoted for her services; so maybe, she thought, she’d be able to afford replacing the cranky furnace after all. But, it just might be more problems than a furnace is worth.

There’s definitely a chill in the air when the two families gather at a “meet and greet” dinner, and Mia begins to regret her involvement. She learns of a feud between the coven and the groom’s tribe of shape-shifting wolves, the Uzzi and McMann fathers hate each other, and the wedding isn’t a happy event for all, and with the McManns making demands, the groom’s brother hitting on her, and the disgraced wedding planner crashing the party causing a loud kerfuffle, Mia’s demeanor is being greatly challenged. But’s it’s the bloody dead body that makes Mia question the whole event.

Grab the Bouquet! Lynn Cahoon’s third full-length book is an exciting drama with a inter-magical wedding introducing new “creatures” to her Kitchen Witch world. She created a fascinating background and lore around these shape shifters which added a bit of darkness to the magical community. The murder mystery has its well-crafted surprises, misdirection, peril, and a karma-filled finale, and the witches vs wolves feud was a nice nod to Montagues vs. Capulets or better yet…the Hatfields vs. McCoys. The characters are diverse in personality, ability, and motivation, and the dynamics between Mia and Grans, the circle of friends, and the pairs of lovers are realistic and endearing. Mia has had her own challenging relationship with magic, courtesy of her mother, and following her evolving discovery is entertaining. There are a few comments that refer to past events like secret passages, questions about the school’s facility, insights into Mia’s heritage, as well as locating people involved in building the facility, the area’s history, and Mr. Darcy the cat’s predicament, but it’s easy for newbies to follow. Big favorite!

What’s in the kitchen? There’s a kitchen witch, of course, and always some “no magic required” recipes, too! What do you do with those “bought too many” peaches? Try this Magically Easy Peach Crisp. Enjoy!
