"All Dog’s Children" By Neil S Plakcy: Review/Giveaway

All Dog’s Children is book 15 in Neil S. Plakcy’s Golden Retriever mystery series featuring semi-reformed hacker Steve Levitan and his Golden Retriever Rochester. You don’t have to read the previous books to be able to enjoy this one—I have only read a few of them myself, though I was familiar with the characters from Neil’s short stories that have been featured on Mysteryrat’s Maze Podcast.

The book starts off with Steve and his girlfriend Lili in Florida packing up her late mother’s things. Steve is concerned that Lili is in a mood he has never seen from her before and isn’t sure what to do. After they return home to Stewart’s Crossing, they learn that a wealthy couple they had met while in Florida has been murdered. When they go to their friend Rick’s home (who also happens to be the local police detective) to pick up Rochester who stayed there while they were away, they learn of another double homicide in a wealthy area of their town and begin to wonder if the world is getting more dangerous. Steve and Rochester are quickly called in to help investigate the local murder.

The victims, Boris and Natalya Krimsky, were murdered in their mansion, and Steve's early forays into their personal data uncovers several possible motives and suspects—people who were cheated and betrayed by Boris. While their son doesn’t seem that upset by their death, he is quickly ruled out as a suspect because he was out of town. But something just doesn’t seem right to Steve and as usual Rochester helps point him in the right direction to uncover the truth. And along the way, Steve also gains a new perspective on family.

All Dog’s Children is another well-written mystery from Neil with plenty of twists and turns along the way. My favorite thing about this series though are the well-developed and wonderful characters, the wit, and the heart in these stories. I feel like I’m visiting friends each time I pick up one of these books and they leave you with a warm cozy feeling. And who doesn’t love a book with a crime solving dog? I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading more of them!
