Red Market is the latest book in Dharma Kelleher’s Jinx Ballou bounty hunter series. Jinx is a transgender woman and a kickass awesome character who also cosplays as Wonder Woman! There aren’t a lot of transgender mystery/thriller authors out there or transgender main characters in the mystery genre. This is an amazing series and the books are always page-turners.

Among the fugitives that Jinx has been hired to find in Red Market is a former doctor who has been illegally selling cadavers. When he turns up dead, Jinx finds herself the prime suspect and is determined to clear her name. As she investigates, she discovers a black market for body parts where parts are harvested from the vulnerable and sold to the privileged. Will she find the killer in time to not only clear her name but to keep from becoming a victim herself?

There is another plot in the book that is sadly very relevant right now—it involves a transgender child running for her life in fear that she will be forced to detransition. At a time when hateful anti-transgender laws and sentiments run rampant in many states in the United States, this book takes the reader to the heart of the matter. It gives the cisgender community a glimpse into how horrific things are for the transgender community right now. I recommend that you take a walk in the shoes of these characters.

Not only is Red Market an edge-of-your-seat and well-crafted thriller with great well-developed characters but it is also filled with heart and a message that the world really needs to hear right now. I highly recommend this entire series!
