This is the second book in the Wedding Planner Mystery series but it does a great job as a stand-alone. There is plenty of backstory to keep you from being confused but since I like being in the know, I will be adding the first to my TBR (to be read) list. Please note that this is not a warm and fuzzy cozy; it has some bite to it, and I don’t just mean from a bridezilla or two. This is a hard-hitting book. Be forewarned that spousal abuse is a theme, but there are also spots of frenemy humor to add a little light-heartedness. Also Included at the start of every chapter are extremely helpful wedding event planning tips.![]() |

First off, Katie is trying to help her BFF Jen, a murder suspect, who has gone dark and disappeared sending only cryptic two-word text messages. This is not the best thing to do when you’re at the top of the suspect list because your alibi cannot be confirmed. Honestly, the victim was at the top of many peoples’ lists for being a bit of a jerk and then some so the suspect list was not wanting. The only person who isn’t a suspect is Katie, but she is having her own problems, starting with commitment confusion and juvenile jealousy being thrown at her by her long-time love interest Detective Brian.
Not much can get Katie down, and she is still standing and planning and making sure that the wedding and event work continues. I think my favorite part is when Katie enlists help from an unlikely source for nighttime recon. The frenemy banter had me laughing out loud. The fact that two characters who clearly can’t get over their high school years are able to come together to help a shared friend was a nice touch. I was in the dark about who the killer was other than it not being Jen. The clues are well laid and the red herrings … well there were enough of them that I needed to keep turning the pages to see where this mystery was headed.
As with all cozies, in the end the killer is caught, and the innocent are exonerated. There is a little bit of a bittersweet cliff hanger so I will definitely be on the lookout for the next book in the series.
