Readers are in for some surprising reveals in Tartan, Treasures and Trouble, book 12 in Victoria Tait’s Dotty Sayers Antique Mystery series. Our favorite character and antiques expert, Dotty Sayers, is once again back home in the Cotswolds, reconnecting with old friends and running the auction house where her career began. Dotty is also busy organizing a traditional Burns Night celebration with her dear friend, Sergeant Keya Varma, at Keya’s cafe. Unfortunately, a guest is murdered, and Dotty, never one to shy away from a mystery, jumps in to help find the culprit.![]() |

There’s a lot happening in this mystery – various subplots in addition to the main mystery – but in her usual clever way, Victoria weaves them together seamlessly. A few storylines that have carried through the series are also wrapped up, and I very much enjoyed learning their resolution. I love that as a reader I can be a part of the various subplots and never feel overwhelmed or confused. It’s a great way to get a picture of the whole community and cast of characters.
This entry was especially fun because in addition to Sergeant Keya Varma, other family and friends readers have met over the series (both Dotty’s series and Keya’s series) make appearances. I adored this crossover–having so many favorite characters in one story was a real treat.
It was fitting to have the story take place in their home village in the Cotswolds. As always, the cozy details added to the story (from the scenery to the meals and many cups of tea the characters enjoy), bring the story to life and make me feel like I am right there with Dotty and Keya.
This was another great read by Victoria and one readers will enjoy while they wait for the summer release of An Auction of Secrets by Victoria Tait.
