Review by Sandra Murphy
Sarah Grayson owns a second-hand store. Pickers find old, repairable items or she cleans out houses for people who have inherited more than they can handle. With the help of Mr. P, Rose, Charlotte, Avery, and Mac, they keep the store full, find new uses for old items, and make busloads of tourists happy with their purchases. Declarations of how Sarah and Mac feel about each other are a fairly new concept that both are happy about.
Besides working at the store, the oldsters have formed their detective agency, Charlotte’s Angels. Mr. P is an expert with computers, Rose has the ability to get people to tell their deepest secrets, and the rest fill in where needed. Elvis is Sarah’s cat who manages to get his way, no matter what. No tantrums or hissy fits. His plan often involves becoming immovable and patient.

As it turned out, the victim had been at that same beach years before when a female friend drowned. He’d vowed to never return to the site, so what was he doing in the very spot all these years later? Was his death connected to hers? Trying to solve two murders, years apart, is a challenge. Did the man who was charged with the death years ago, commit murder again?
This is book 12 in the series, hopefully with many more to come. The store employees are more than co-workers. They are family. Elvis always plays a part in solving the case, as only a cat can. The blossoming relationship between Sarah and Mac has been long awaited and a delight to see.
Ryan also writes as Sofie Kelly. Her Magical Cats series now numbers 16 books. The characters there are as friendly as the second-hand store. Drop by to meet them too. Where else do cats vanish as you watch them or walk through walls? Finish out your cold weather reading with cats!
