Once again, I was drawn to Misty Simon’s latest entry into her Sunny Side Up mystery series, Put Another Crime in the Jukebox, by the colorful and clever cover. And once again, I’m here to let readers know that book two is just as much fun as the cover AND book one!
Jax and Dani are enjoying the success of their diner and there’s even a little bit of romance for each of the friends. Jax and Eliot are dating, and Dani has connected with handsome Ian online. The couples are headed for a double date at the movies when they encounter Dani’s mom in a knock down, drag out argument with another woman just outside the theater. The two women part, but not before Dani’s mom shows Jax the knife she has in her purse.

This is a fast-paced mystery, with intrigue and murder happening right away. Jax is such an entertaining character – a little bumbling as she investigates, but that is one of her charms. She might be afraid of the secrets and lies she begins to uncover, but that fear doesn’t hold her back. There’s a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming and found it most enjoyable.
Cozy details describing the small town and the diner bring the story to life, and I once again wished I could visit the diner. I was happy to be back with the cast of entertaining characters we had met in book one. I’m a big fan of Eliot and Jax and love the little romance sprinkled in.
This is a highly entertaining (I laughed to myself several times) and quick read, perfect for the summer!
