Someone Is Out There will have you constantly looking over your shoulder and sleeping with the lights on. Darla Taylor is a full-time nurse on a 10-hour schedule, living alone, and still trying to find Mr. Right. Thankfully, she has a yellow Labrador Retriever named Moose as a constant companion and guard. The story opens with Darla at dinner with Bobby, a man she wants to break up with because of his irregular moods and increasing drinking. As you might expect, dinner doesn’t go well, and we have our first suspect for the events that follow. To make matters worse, this man is a nurse’s assistant working at the same hospital and in the same department

Darla is a complex character with a mother who lives alone at her own home. Her mother is wheelchair bound because of Darla’s father who abused her and ended up in prison because of it. The story blossoms further when she tells Darla more about her own troubled past, which includes a first husband, also incarcerated. Both ex-husbands have been released, making the suspect list grow. The tension increases as the pranks to Darla become more threatening, and the reader wonders if her mother is in danger, too.
Gin, Darla’s longtime best friend, has found her own Mr. Right and suddenly becomes distant and secretive. Should Darla count her among the suspects? Should the police? And yes, there is a tall, dark detective assigned to her case.
The story ramps up as the pranks become more dangerous. Darla becomes more and more frightened, drawing Moose closer for company and protection.
