Fatal Sign-Off is book three in the Book Blogger cozy mystery series by the talented Sarah E. Burr. Readers looking for another delightful sleuth to root for need look no further than Sarah’s main character Winnie Lark. I can attest that this latest entry can easily be read as a standalone, although I enjoyed it so much that I’m loading up my Kindle with books one and two.

It’s spring time in Copper Bay, Massachusetts, and Winnie Lark’s life is full. Her parents have moved closer, her movie-star brother Strider is living with her, and she has her best friends Bex and Owen, Teddy, her boyfriend, and a lovely friendship with local police detective Rose. Online, Winnie is secretly The Wren, a literary influencer. She’s busy and happy.

And then Milton Mulligan, a resident podcaster, dies at the local diner, just one booth away from Winnie and her family. It’s quickly revealed that Milton’s death was no accident. Unfortunately, due to the nasty nature of his podcasts, the suspect list is miles long and includes some of those closest to Winnie. Winnie and Strider, along with her close-knit friend group team up to solve the case.

Oh my gosh, this was so much fun – an absolute bookish delight. I loved Winnie from page one, and her entire group of family and friends added so much to the story. Winnie is an independent and smart sleuth and also works with her supports, which I greatly admire. The teamwork between Winnie and her brother felt fresh and unique in the mystery world.

This is a carefully plotted mystery with many layers, and the descriptive, cozy writing made this reader feel as though I was walking alongside Winnie, thinking through the clues and possibilities. While I was unsuccessful in solving the mystery ahead of time, the journey had me turning the pages quickly. I was so frustrated when I had to put the book down and do boring, non-bookish tasks!

Of course Winnie is a voracious reader, so mentions of real cozy mystery titles and sleuths are sprinkled throughout which feels like a happy bonus to an already wonderful book!
