Readers travel to the coastal city of Essaouira in Morocco with antique expert Georgina Carey in Mystique and Murder in Morocco, book two in Victoria Taits Treasured Journey Mystery Series.

An expat family seeks Georginas expertise in assessing their collection of Moroccan antiques, and after a summer with her older children, shes excited for a new project. Upon her arrival, Georgina is immediately captivated by the beautiful setting, evocative cooking and local folklore. Getting access to the materials she is supposed to assess is not the easiest, but Georgina makes the best of the situation and dives right in.

Unfortunately, shes not far along in her project when she literally stumbles across a dead body. Unable to resist a mystery and fascinated by the folklore and whispers of curses, Georgina dives in with the help of a local Inspector.

What a unique, layered mystery this was! First, I was immediately transported from my midwest home to the coastal city of Essaouira. Victorias writing shines in her descriptive writing, making all her books, including this newest one, the perfect armchair travel. I could feel the coastal breeze as I read and taste the mint tea as I read.

Whispers of local folklore, curses and beliefs are sprinkled throughout and gave the mystery a slightly spooky feel, which kept me turning the pages. Readers will enjoy following Georginas investigation that gives credence to both facts and evidence, as well as to more spiritual beliefs and ideas.

Georgina demonstrates a lot of growth as a character in this latest entry. She is a thoughtful sleuth and becomes braver with each page turn. I am excited to travel with her again.
