Death by Mistake is book 22 in the Josiah Reynolds Mystery series by Abigail Keam, and readers new to the series or familiar with it will be happy to know they are in for a page-turning mystery.
Josiah is busy tending her beehives when she is summoned to Lady Elsmere’s big house next door. There Josiah finds Detective Drake who informs her that her ex-boyfriend, Hunter, has been arrested for the murder of his wife Kathy. Josiah is still hurt from Hunter leaving her for Kathy, and vows not to get involved in his case. But as Josiah begins to learn more pieces of the case and sees how little Hunter is doing to defend himself, she simply cannot let an innocent man go to prison.
It’s always fun to be back with Josiah and all the characters that make up the story. I was so excited to have a day off and time to actually sit down and read when I opened Death by Mistake that I finished it in one day! Like each of Abigail’s past entries in the series, the pacing of the story is excellent, never lagging, simply propelling the reader forward. The twists and turns kept me wondering and studying the clues.
Josiah is a wonderful character – strong and brave, with an excellent sense of humor, and she freely admits her flaws. I love her dog Baby so much, and there’s the happiest addition of puppies in this story. Each character in the story is unique and written in such a real way. I love how Josiah has such a variety of friends of all ages.
No spoilers here, but I did so enjoy the ending and am looking forward to what might be next for Josiah.

I always like a mention of bees in a mystery.
