"Cosmyx the Time Witch" By Alysia Anderson

Review by Kiana Wall

Alysia Anderson brings a new universe to life with her new comic series, Cosmyx the Time Witch. With a lovable delinquent heroine with a tragic backstory, Cosmyx the Time Witch is the beginning of an epic tale involving witchcraft, prophecies, and the forces that control time.

There are mysterious forces at work in Dorothy’s life––and she doesn’t understand them. She in the hospital where her dad lost his battle with illness, playing guardian to a young boy who visits his dad often. She is therefore most often late to school and not well liked by her teachers. Most annoying of all, Dorothy has lived with an insistent ticking in her head that warns of coming danger, often just in time for her to stop it.

Things get even wackier when a mysterious woman appears in Dorothy’s circles––not only does she end up being a prestigious speaker at Dorothy’s school, but she also appears at the hospital where Dorothy lives.

Dorothy has no idea how important this woman will become to her in a matter of hours, but everything becomes much more complicated in a battle. With the help of the mysterious woman, Dorothy discovers her powers and shakes the world to its foundation.

It has been a long time since I have read a comic, and it was lovely to dive in again with “Cosmyx the Time Witch.” I enjoyed the enthusiastic, colorful storytelling and how Anderson developed Dorothy’s voice. The underlying themes of womanhood and the confusion of being a teenager were also intriguing, something that I am sure will be expanded on in the next issue. It was interesting seeing that added into the usual superhero discovering their powers at the height of their adolescence.

If you’re looking for an entrance back into the world of superhero comics, with a relatable and instantly likeable character, I would recommend you check out the first issue of Cosmyx the Time Witch. I cannot wait to see where this series goes!
