Mystery Coming Attractions: February 2026 Valentine's Edition

I've had a long love affair with rom-coms (romantic comedy) ever since my mother introduced me to Rock Hudson and Doris Day films. My mother was a beautiful blonde who wanted nothing more than to be like Doris Day and live in Hollywood. She coiffed her golden tresses just like Doris, and even copied her makeup and duped her fashions with homemade garments. No, she wasn't a mini-me of Doris. Think of it as Doris was the ultimate influencer and my mother “followed” her. But as much as she loved rom-coms, mysteries and suspense held an equally special place in her heart. Every now and again, when I'm missing my mother, her humor, her wisdom, or her presence, I look for books or movies that celebrate the best parts of her legacy to me. And I do consider her love of Doris Day, rom-coms, and mysteries a small but important part of that legacy. For February, in honor of this and Valentine's Day I've focused my book recommendations on eight offerings that bring the rom or the rom-com to my favorite genre of mystery. As always, if you don’t find my suggestions to your liking, there are plenty of new exciting releases to choose from.
