Of Blood and Fire by Keri Arthur is the third and final book in the Drakkon Kin Trilogy. This series has been a wild ride full of adventure, heartbreak, love, and dragons. I have been a fan of Keri’s books for some time and she never disappoints.

This series features Princess Bryn Silva, the sole child of Esan’s king. But she isn’t your typical princess. Bryn is also a soldier and a Strega witch, gifted with the ability to raise fire and mind speak to animals. In this world, drakkons (which are basically dragons) have been hunted to near extinction. Bryn has always been fascinated by them and has spent years tracking their movements and formed a tenuous relationship with a queen drakkon named Kaia. In the first book, Of Steel and Scale, Bryn was promised in marriage to Damon Valez,  heir to the throne of Zephrine, and a powerful blood witch. While she was attracted to him, she wasn’t thrilled to be marrying someone she wasn’t in love with, but felt she had no choice. The hardest part of it all was going to be leaving behind her home and the drakkons. However, that move was delayed when a new deadly enemy started destroying their kingdom using riders on armored birds who possessed weapons capable of eating through scale and stone. These same weapons were used to attack Kaia and her children, so Kaia wanted to help Bryn fight them and get her revenge. Bryn also finds Damon to be an unexpected ally, and finds herself falling in love with him. To make matters even worse, in book two the Mareritt, a warrior race and an ancient enemy, seem to have joined forces with whomever is behind the armored birds.

By this third book, more Strega witches have been trained to ride the drakkons and they have found a way to let the drakkons use their rider’s fire. Bryn’s parents have been killed and she has reluctantly taken on the role of Queen—something Damon’s father tries to take from her, and something she eventually gets to hand over to another family member who is found to still be alive. But Bryn and the drakkons are still at the heart of the fighting, and now her husband has disappeared. Will they be able to save their kingdom? Will Damon return? Will the greatest threat actually be from within?

I always enjoy Keri Arthur’s books. They are filled with interesting fantasy lore, action, great characters, and a bit of spice. And who doesn’t love dragons! There have also been plenty of unexpected twists and turns in this series. I love the chemistry between Bryn and Damon, and the snarky drakkon Kaia. This trilogy was a wild and wonderful ride filled with adventure, unexpected twists, and great characters! If you love fantasy, romance, and dragons don’t miss The Drakkon Kin Trilogy.
